Getting Started with Figma Collaboration
Are you into web development or design? Then, you must have heard about Figma. If not, no worries, we got you covered! Figma is a browser-based UI and UX design application with robust features that support team collaboration. This blog will guide you through the basics of collaborating with Figma so you can take advantage of this amazing platform.
Create a Figma Account
First things first, you’ve got to create an account on Figma. It’s as simple as navigating to Figma’s official site, clicking on the ‘Sign Up’ button, and filling in your details.
Navigating the Figma Interface
Once you’ve successfully created your account, it’s time to understand the Figma interface:
- ‘Toolbar’ at the left includes all the design tools you need.
- ‘Canvas’ in the middle is your workspace where the magic happens.
- ‘Design Panel’ at the right allows you to view and modify object properties.
- ‘Layers Panel’ below the ‘Design Panel’ offers an overview of your page elements.
Begin Your First Project
Now that you are familiar with the interface, it’s time to start your first project. Click the ‘+ New’ button on the top left of your dashboard and select whether you’d like to create a ‘Design File’ or a ‘Prototype’.
Collaborating with Team
Arguably, Figma’s best feature is real-time collaboration, much like a Google Docs for design. It allows multiple people, no matter where they are based, to simultaneously work on a project.
Sharing Your Project
To share your project, click on the ‘Share’ button on the top right corner, enter your team member’s email address and set their access level: ‘Can View’ or ‘Can Edit’.
Collaborative Designing
In the collaborative mode, each user is assigned a different cursor, which is seen by all members. This encourages better communication and faster feedback, preventing the proverbial “too many cooks spoil the broth” problem.
Post Collaboration
Once your team has successfully collaborated, you can create a presentable prototype and prepare your design for development.
There you go! You have now dipped your toes in using Figma for collaboration. Remember, it’s not about how fancy your design is, but how well it solves the problem. Underlying every great product is a great team, and Figma is a tool that can enhance your teamwork. Happy designing!
